WHAT WE PROVIDE
Eye on Conservation (EOC) is dedicated to combating wildlife crime through a hands on, direct and targeted approach focusing on implementing solutions from the ground up where the work needs to be done.
EOC provides a unique, integrated conservation crime response service, combining specialist security, cutting-edge technology, intelligence gathering, and veterinary expertise.
By bringing these disciplines together, we deliver a co-ordinated approach to tackling wildlife crime, enhancing operational effectiveness, and supporting conservation initiatives with practical, results-driven solutions.
K9 Unit
- Certified detection & tracking dogs (OHS & 5.2) ready to deploy anywhere in South Africa.
- Assisting reserves with handler training & establishing their own K9 teams.
- Long-term goal: fully mobile deployable K9 unit for rapid response.
AI-powered & Surveillance
- Al-powered monitoring of poaching hotspots through thermal drones, cameras & license plate recognition systems.
- Real-time vehicle tracking & analytics to identify & intercept suspects.
- Expanding an integrated network across Ezemvelo & KZN Wildlife reserves.
Security & Forensic Support
- Conducting site audits, data analysis & evidence recovery.
- Rapid helicopter deployment & tactical response teams in the field.
- Collaborating with SAPS, Hawks & NIU to turn intelligence into convictions.
Veterinary & Wildlife Services
- Dehorning, collaring and translocation support to protect and monitor endangered species.
- On-call wildlife veterinarian for field response and animal welfare.
OUR IMPACT
Since launching, EOC has delivered measurable results in curbing wildlife crime and strengthening conservation security across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond:
- Supported over seven major poaching investigations, contributing to arrests and the recovery of illegal firearms.
- Deployed K9 and forensic units to track suspects, detect firearms and narcotics, and recover ballistic evidence.
- Implemented AI-driven surveillance and national license plate recognition (LPR) systems to identify and intercept suspect vehicles.
- Prevented poaching attempts through early detection and intelligence-sharing with the Hawks, SAPS, NIU, and Ezemvelo Wildlife.
- Supported critical dehorning, collaring, and wildlife research programmes, aiding the long-term protection of rhino, lion, and wild dog populations.
